Itinerary
- Day 1: Marangu Gate (1,870m) to Mandara Hut (2,700m),Distance: 8 km,Hiking Time: 4–5 hours,Vegetation Zone: Rainforest,Start your trek at Marangu Gate with registration and a briefing. Walk through lush rainforest filled with monkeys, birds, and tropical flora. You’ll reach Mandara Hut in the afternoon where you'll rest overnight.,Overnight at Mandara Hut.
- Day 2:Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720m),Distance: 12 km,Hiking Time: 6–8 hours,Vegetation Zone: Moorland,After breakfast, the trail continues through rainforest then enters moorland terrain. You’ll see giant lobelias and heathers along the path. Enjoy beautiful views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks on clear days.,Overnight at Horombo Hut
- Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut,Optional Hike: Horombo to Zebra Rocks (4,000m) and back,Hiking Time: 2–4 hours,Purpose: Altitude acclimatization,Spend the day resting or take a short acclimatization hike to Zebra Rocks. This helps increase your chances of successful summit by reducing altitude sickness.,Second night at Horombo Hut.
- Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,700m),Distance: 10 km,Hiking Time: 5–7 hours,Vegetation Zone: Alpine desert,Cross the lunar-like saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The landscape is dry and barren. You’ll reach Kibo Hut in the afternoon and rest before your midnight summit attempt.,Overnight at Kibo Hut.
- Day 5:Summit Day – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) & Down to Horombo Hut,Distance: 6 km up / 16 km down,Hiking Time: 6–8 hours to summit, 6–8 hours down,Vegetation Zones: Arctic at summit, alpine/moorland on descent,Wake up around midnight for the summit push. Trek in the dark past Hans Meyer Cave to Gilman’s Point (5,685m), then continue to Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, descend back to Horombo Hut via Kibo for a well-earned rest.Congratulations – You’ve reached the Roof of Africa!,Overnight at Horombo Hut.
- Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate,Distance: 20 km,Hiking Time: 6–7 hours,Vegetation Zones: Moorland into rainforest,Descend through moorland and lush rainforest back to the gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer back to Moshi or Arusha.Transfer to your hotel for rest and celebration.
