Package Overview
The Shira Route is a scenic and adventurous trail starting from the Shira Plateau on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro. It merges with the Lemosho route and offers breathtaking views and a unique approach to the summit. Recommended for acclimatized and experienced trekkers.
Itinerary
- Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Shira 1 Camp (3,500m). Begin with a drive to the gate and trek across the Shira Plateau with stunning views of the surrounding wilderness.
- Day 2: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m). A gentle trek across moorland, with acclimatization time and beautiful panoramas.
- Day 3: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp (3,960m) via Lava Tower. Ascend to the Lava Tower (4,630m) for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp.
- Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (4,035m). Climb the iconic Barranco Wall and trek through valleys to reach Karanga.
- Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,640m). A short hike through alpine desert leading to the final base camp before the summit.
- Day 6: Summit Day: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and down to Mweka Camp. Midnight ascent to the summit, then descend to rest at Mweka.
- Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate. Final descent through the rainforest to the park gate. Transfer back to Moshi/Arusha.
- Day 8: Departure day or optional extension for a safari, Zanzibar, or cultural day tour.
