Package Overview
The Umbwe Route is the shortest and steepest route up Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its direct and demanding ascent, it is recommended only for experienced trekkers who are well-acclimatized and seeking a challenge. This route offers stunning views and a true wilderness experience, with fewer climbers compared to other routes.
Itinerary

Day 1: Umbwe Gate (1,800m) – Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850m)
After registration at the Machame Gate, you'll be transferred to Umbwe Gate. The trail ascends steeply through a dense rainforest. It's a short but demanding hike with rewarding scenery. Overnight at Umbwe Cave Camp.

Day 2: Umbwe Cave Camp – Barranco Camp (3,950m)
The trail continues with a steep climb through moss-covered forests and then into the heath zone. You'll reach Barranco Camp, which offers incredible views of the Southern Icefields and the Kibo summit.

Day 3: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (4,035m)
After breakfast, you’ll tackle the famous Barranco Wall, then hike through ridges and valleys to reach Karanga Camp. This day is important for acclimatization.

Day 4: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,640m)
A short and steady climb leads you to Barafu Camp. You'll rest here in preparation for the final ascent to the summit later that night.

Day 5: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Begin the midnight climb toward the summit. After reaching Stella Point and then Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, you'll descend back to Barafu and then to Mweka Camp for rest.

Day 6: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate (1,640m)
After breakfast, descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. You’ll receive your summit certificates here before a vehicle takes you back to Moshi.

Day 7: Departure/Optional Activities
Depending on your travel plans, you can choose to depart or enjoy a day trip or cultural tour around Moshi or Arusha.
